Rantmusic was a nomadic six piece band (five male, one female); a road-weathered group of musicians from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
Their music was as diverse as their travelling grounds, uniquely blending Gypsy, African and western genres (including folk and punk) with their own high-powered, energetic style. It could border chaos at times, with the brooding strength of vocalist, Ramsey Reid, surrounded by the well-orchestrated cacophony of the violin, mandolin and electric guitar. At other times, it is contemplative. Their accomplished musical skills allows the stylistic variety, while maintaining the intensity and raw energy that is the band's sound.
Mandolin player and co-writer Rob Larsen explained some of the influences behind the music: "Our sound is a lot more diverse than most bands'. When you live and travel full-time on a bus, you're exposed to life in a way that few others are. Every day is a new experience, a new set of changes. I guess that diversity of experience comes out in our writing. We don't deny ourselves any indulgences when it comes to our music, so whatever comes out, we play it and try not to pigeonhole ourselves."
